Died on Thursday 23rd July 2026, at Jane Winstone Rest Home, aged 95 years.
Much loved husband of Maureen for 62 years.
Loved father of Janet, Carol, David, and John and father-in-law of John, Bruce, Katherine, and Matt.
Treasured grandfather of Libby, Alicia, Sean, Alanna, Blair, Jack, Joshua, Toby, and Finn.
Great-grandfather of Rico, Harper, Luca, Milo, Kōwhai, and Hadley.
And extended family in Ireland, England, and Australia.
The family extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at both Jane Winstone Rest Home and Whanganui Hospital for their wonderful care of Ted.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, Tawhero St, Whanganui Saturday 1st August 2026 at 1.00pm to be followed by a private family burial.
The family extend an invitation to join them for Rosary for Ted in the Church on Friday evening at 5.30pm

Dear Mrs Downes and family, so sorry to hear about Ted's death. A real character, ever kind and went the extra mile for all, stoic, prayerful, loved and trusted his faith & Our Lady, he fiercely loved his family- all to say he was a very special man! I have very fond family and personal memories of him. May he have received his reward and having a good old yarn with his loved ones, along with my Dad who he really liked :) God's blessings of comfort and love at this difficult time at his loss, love from Jennifer, John & family (Nth Canterbury) xxxxxxx

Deepest condolences to Maureen, Janet, Carol, David, John, and extended family.
Sorry for your loss, of a wonderful husband and father. He was a kind and gentle person. We met last, on Christmas day 2020, when he welcomed my husband and I, to his home, to celebrate Christmas dinner, with the whole family. It was a home of Love, joy and welcoming. A really fun place. Out thoughts and prayers are with you, at this time.
